Boat Storage in Barrie

Kempenfelt Bay is the deepest water on the lake and the last to freeze. Barrie boats get the longest season on Simcoe, and the tightest scramble for storage at the end of it.

About This Area

The deep end of the lake, and the busiest.

Kempenfelt Bay runs west from the main body of Lake Simcoe and drops past forty metres, which makes it the deepest water on the lake by a wide margin. Deep water gives up its heat slowly, so the Barrie end is regularly the last part of Simcoe to close and the last to be safe for ice. It is the reason a Barrie boater can still be out on a mild weekend when Cook’s Bay is already done.

It is also the most crowded stretch of shoreline on the lake. Barrie is a city of around a hundred and fifty thousand people sitting directly on the water, and immediately south of it Innisfil adds Alcona, Big Bay Point and the thousand or so slips at Friday Harbour. That is a very large number of boats chasing a finite amount of winter space within a short drive.

The result is the complaint we hear most often from this end of the lake: marina winter storage is expensive, frequently full by September, and almost never priced without a phone call first. Our rates are published by the foot. You can work out what your own boat costs before you speak to anybody, which is a low bar that most of the competition here does not clear.

We keep a yard at the Barrie end rather than running everything to the south shore, so a Kempenfelt Bay or Innisfil boat stays local. If you are closer to the other side of the lake, see Georgina, and if you are east toward the Trent, see the Kawartha Lakes.

What we offer Barrie boat owners.

A late freeze is not the same as a late booking. Space here is gone well before the water is.

Pricing, published and clear Outdoor winter boat storage from $38 per foot, shrink wrap from $20 per foot, and full-service packages built from those same published rates. Most marinas on this lake will not give you a number without a phone call. Ours are all on the pricing page, and what a full package costs depends on your boat’s length, engine type and count, battery count, and which pickup method you pick, so build your exact package rather than working from an average.
