Boat Storage in the Kawartha Lakes

A local yard for the Trent-Severn chain, from Balsam and Cameron through Sturgeon, Pigeon and Buckhorn.

About This Area

A chain of lakes, and a lock schedule that ends the season for you.

The Kawarthas are not one lake but a linked chain along the Trent-Severn Waterway: Balsam and Cameron at the top of the system, then Sturgeon, Pigeon, Buckhorn and Lower Buckhorn running east toward Stony. Balsam Lake is the summit of the whole waterway, the highest point a boat can reach on the Trent, which is the sort of detail that only matters until the day it matters a great deal.

Because it matters here more than anywhere else we work: when the locks close for the season, your boat is wherever it is. Parks Canada shuts the Trent-Severn to navigation around Thanksgiving, and if your slip is on one side of a lock and your ramp is on the other, that date is a hard wall rather than a guideline. Owners on this system need to plan haul-out backwards from the lock closure, not forwards from the first cold night.

The water itself shapes the fleet. These lakes are shallow, weedy and warm, which suits pontoons, fishing boats and smaller runabouts far more than deep-water cruisers. Pontoons in particular need a wrap built with a real peak on it, because a flat deck collects snow and a flat wrap over a flat deck is how you end up with water sitting on furniture in March.

We run a yard in the Kawarthas rather than hauling everything back toward Simcoe, so the trip from Lindsay, Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls or Buckhorn is short. Rates are per foot and published. West of here we also cover Lake Simcoe from two further yards.

What we offer Kawartha boat owners.

Plan around the lock closure. It is the only deadline on this system that will not move for you.

Pricing, published and clear Outdoor winter boat storage from $38 per foot, shrink wrap from $20 per foot, and full-service packages built from those same published rates. Most marinas on this lake will not give you a number without a phone call. Ours are all on the pricing page, and what a full package costs depends on your boat’s length, engine type and count, battery count, and which pickup method you pick, so build your exact package rather than working from an average.
